- Abstract:
- With the current increase in the ethnic and cultural diversity of older adults in the United States, there is increased diversity of families struggling with an elder with dementia. In order to work effectively with family caregivers in the rapidly growing Asian American populations, health and social service providers need to understand the cultural issues they face, such as the value of filial piety and pressure to provide care. The three following articles provide insights about family caregiving in Chinese American, Hmong American, and Vietnamese American populations, each with very different historical experiences, demographic characteristics, and culture. © 2008, Hallym Aging Research Institute, Hallym University.
