Abstract:
In the 1980's Laotian Hmong refugees came to Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Because they were assisted by Mennonites, some chose to convert to Christianity and become Mennonite. They had to separate themselves from their animist past and also from their non-Christian Hmong relatives. Although they no longer practiced sacrifice to the ancestral spirits, many still believed in the existence of such spirits.
