Abstract:
48 male and 45 female Hmong refugee-immigrants (aged 15+ yrs) completed the SCL-90 translated into Hmong. Men and women reported comparable levels of anxiety. At this stage, men's anxiety may be increased by the role changes imposed on them, whereas women can continue traditional roles in the US. Greater anxiety was associated with rare or no visits by sponsor and with living very close to or far from other Hmong, suggesting that ties to the expatriate community and American society may reduce anxiety symptoms.
