Abstract:
As the baby boomer generation leaders are retiring, many nonprofit organizations in the United States will experience difficulty in managing transitions. This shift in demographics present many challenges for nonprofit organizations because of their lack in resources and know-how to effectively plan for succession. An analysis of the journal articles and case studies related to succession planning for nonprofit human service organizations provided critical elements required to form a framework for successfully managing transitions and filling in leadership gaps. In addition, this research included a literature search on Hmong demographic trends and major challenges facing the community in order to provide an effective succession planning for a Hmong nonprofit organization called Lao Family Community of Minnesota (LFC).
