Abstract:
186 Whites, 85 Blacks, 55 Hmong, and 24 other Southeast Asians participated in the study. Mean ages of the adolescents were similar, although a significantly greater percentage of the Hmong and other Southeast Asian adolescents were married, as compared with Whites and Blacks. While about half the Hmong adolescents had a previous live birth, the majority of Whites, Blacks, and other Southeast Asians had no previous live births before the pregnancy for which they entered the program. Menarche was significantly later (2 yrs) for Hmong and other Southeast Asians, and the interval between menarche and 1st pregnancy was significantly shorter for the Hmong. While more than half of the Whites and Blacks previously used contraception, 14% of the Hmong and 29% of the other Southeast Asians had used contraception.
