This article defines a model of women's health for the primary care environment. The article demonstrates how the mission of primary care is consistent with providing comprehensive interdisciplinary healthcare for women. It is essential to emphasize that women's health includes building and maintaining relationships and addressing health issues in the context of family and community. An interdisciplinary approach to address women's multifaceted health concerns is described, including utilizing a contextual assessment to understand the needs of, and create culturally sensitive interventions for, women. Two specific interdisciplinary interventions are presented, including group therapy for Hmong women and assessment and treatment for women with sexual problems. The benefits, shortcomings, and research goals for an interdisciplinary care approach to women's health in primary care are discussed.
