Abstract:
The Mun language belongs to the Mein-Kim division of the Mienic branch of Hmong-Mien languages, & is spoken in parts of China, Vietnam, & Laos. The tone system of one variety of Mun spoken in northwest Laos is described, based on information provided by a single adult male speaker. The historical sources of these tones & possible sources of the different phonation types in the Houei Sai Mun dialect are discussed. 1 Figure, 36 References. B. Annesser Murray
