Abstract:
This is a case study of the Asian Development Bank's technical assistance (TA) report of Lao People's Democratic Republic. It aims to conduct ethnographic studies among ethnic minority communities living in the Nam Ngum River Basin. The aim was to understand key gender relations and issues in access to and ownership of land, forest and water resources, from both historical perspectives and the recent impact of the state's relevant laws. It focused on the variety of gender roles among the three main ethnic minority groups in the areas of Khmou and Phong. The ethnographic research has identified key differences between the Mon-Khmer family and the Hmong. The TA report suggests that the starting point could be establishing eco-cultural institutes for the ethnic groups (Copyright applies to all Abstracts.)
