The Pahawh Hmong script of the Hmong language (Sino Tibetan) in the border region of northern Laos & Vietnam is described. Created by Shong Lue Yang in 1959, the script was used as proof of the inventor's divinity & spread with the religious influence of his followers until he was assassinated by government forces in 1971. The script is unique in that it is based on subsyllabic units that exhaustively represent phonological tones, consonants, vowels, & all variations in the Hmong language. The symbols, features, & usage of the system are presented in charts & samples. 3 Tables, 2 References. G. Colls
