Abstract:
Hmong student papers in a class at Fresno State University are used to illustrate how a people with only an oral history develop a written past. While students draw on a variety of sources, several topics, including why the Hmong migrated into Southeast Asia, their relations with the Chinese, and their involvement in the Golden Triangle opium production are not given significant attention.
