Abstract:
This article provides an introduction to this issue of Urban Education. Tierney looks at affirmative action in higher education admissions and Hoffman, Knight, and Wallach look at campus work and self esteem in community colleges. Brown and Arcia both look at suspensions in high schools. Brown looks at the cost of lost instructional time and Arcia looks at the effect of school structure on the frequency of suspensions in the sixth and seventh grades. Dukes and Lamar-Dukes look at the impact of school size on the provision of special education services. Brock looks at the English literacy development of a fifth-grade Hmong child.
