Abstract:
Uses data from two studies to look at how first-generation and second-generation Asian American young females interpret media representations of their position in American culture. One study examined Hmong American high school students in Wisconsin during 1999-2000, the other focused on Asian American women attending a private liberal arts college in the South during 2001-02. Participants in both studies accepted the American culture's objectification of the female body as the model for their own Americanization.
