Examines women's low educational participation and achievement, and argues that the focus on cultural differences as the sole explanation of that condition ignores economic, racial, and other structural barriers to educational persistence and success; 1980s and 1990s, chiefly. Some focus on the experiences of several Hmong American women who received higher education in the US.
