Abstract:
Despite numerous disadvantages and a rocky beginning, Hmong refugees have been very successful since moving to the United States in the 1970's, evidenced by Minnesota state senator Mee Moua. The Hmong, a distinct ethnic group from the highlands of Laos, were trained by the Central Intelligence Agency beginning in the early 1960's and fought for the United States in a "secret war" against Communist forces before and during the Vietnam War.
