Abstract:
Describes characteristics of Hmong, Lao, Cambodian, and Vietnamese communities as they impact the problems of sexual assault. A primary factor in the reluctance of many women from these communities to deal with sexual assault is the status of women and women's roles in Asian cultures. Interventions and strategies for dealing with sexual assault victims and their families are described, including the use of indirect methods to gain information and the use of a female interviewer for the initial stages of intervention with both female and male victims.
