Dru Gladney's 'Dislocating China: Muslims, Minorities and Other Subaltern Subjects' (2004) discusses China's minority population, which includes approximately 91 million people. Mary Rack's 'Ethnic Distinction, Local Meanings: Negotiating Cultural Identities in China' (2005) focuses on the highland Miao, called Hmong in Vietnam. Melvyn C. Goldstein's 'A Tibetan Revolutionary: The Political Life and Times of Bapa Phüntso Wanye' (2004) is a study of a leader in the Tibetan autonomy movement.
