Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the neuropsychology of Hmong Americans. After providing a brief history of the Hmong people and the reasons Hmong immigrate to the US, the authors describe Hmong population demographics in the US. Pertinent cultural variables include subcultural divisions, family structure, and religious values, and education in Laos and the US. Illness beliefs and traditional healing practices are also noted. Mental health issues are described. Recommendations for neuropsychological assessment are provided for both children and adults. Finally, an illustrative case example is provided.
