Abstract:
Reviews the exhibit 'Open House,' which opened at the St. Paul, Minnesota History Center in 2004. The exhibit traces the more than fifty families who lived at 470 Hopkins in the Railroad Island neighborhood of St. Paul. Some stayed for decades, others just months. The house was built in the 1880's by the Schumachers, German immigrants who left an extensive paper trail. The house was turned into a duplex and later a triplex, home to Italian Americans, African Americans, and currently Hmong Americans.
