Abstract:
Dong Van (Ha Giang Province) is an important frontier through which the Hmong people migrated from China to Vietnam in the ancient time. Through the feudal dynasties prior to the August revolution in 1945, the traditional administrative organization of the Hmong people was the Quang Tho ty, Ma phai, Seo phai regimes. By the early twentieth century, these regimes gradually changed. Accordingly, the importance was ranked as follows: first, Tho ty; second, Ma phai, then third, Seo phai. These were the representatives that managed the social activities of the Hmong people. The social organization of the Hmong ethnic was divided into three levels: 1) family organization; 2) lineage organization; 3) village organization. This model helped preserve, diffuse, and recreate the Hmong traditional cultural values. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
