Abstract:
The present study investigated whether the perceptions of Hmong parents of preschoolers regarding school readiness are the same as those of teachers and non-Hmong parents. It was hypothesized that Hmong parents would not share similar views of school readiness with educators and non-Hmong parents. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics and compared with data from previous study results. It was expected that they would not parallel and reflect the results of similar research conducted by Piotrkowski, Botsk, and Mathews (2000). Hmong parents of preschoolers would rate the General Readiness Resources Indexes as "somewhat important" rather than "Absolutely necessary" for the children to have prior to kindergarten entrance and they would rate no greater than "somewhat important" on the Classroom-Related Resources Indexes.
