Abstract:
Provides an overview of the Hmong culture and history of their migration to the US. The Hmong people's difficulty adjusting to life in the West is analyzed, and specific adjustment and mental health problems are noted. A framework is proposed for designing an intervention for use with a culturally different client. Rather than using a set of specific techniques or a specific theoretical orientation, therapists should apply their knowledge of Hmong culture and values to determine the appropriateness of the processes and goals they select.
